General Information

Optics in the UK offers a variety of rewarding careers usually within high street opticians’ practices, but also in hospitals and in the community visiting people in their homes.  

We meet people of all ages and from every walk of life so a love of meeting people is a pre-requisite to even consider a job at an optician.  On the high street we deal mainly with people with healthy eyes who visit because they need new glasses or contact lenses or are having a routine check up.  However we also screen people for eye disease and other conditions and often refer people for medical treatment, so a sympathetic and understanding nature is also important.
 
Within a typical high street practice such as Conlons you are likely to see the following people:

• Branch Manager
• Optometrist
• Dispensing Optician
• Contact Lens Optician
• Optical Advisor
• Glazing Technician
• Registered Hearing Aid Dispenser
