Below are descriptions of some of the more common conditions we find:
MYOPIA
This means that you may have difficulty seeing objects (short sighted) that are far away, although near objects appear sharp.
Spectacles or contact lenses can correct myopia easily, whether you need to wear them all the time or just for certain tasks such as driving or watching television.
HYPERMETROPIA
This means that you have difficulty focussing comfortably (long sighted) on objects close up and your distance vision may also be affected. It is a common cause of eyestrain and can be corrected with spectacles and contact lenses.
ASTIGMATISM
This is quite common and can occur in conjunction with both short sight or long sight. It means that the eye is not completely round, but shaped more like a rugby ball. Astigmatism affects your vision both close to and far away, as objects are pulled out of focus slightly.
PRESBYOPIA
The natural 'ageing of the eye'. As your eyes get less flexible (usually in your early to mid-forties) you can have difficulties with focussing close up (for example reading). Both glasses and contact lenses can solve this problem.
Your optometrist and dispensing optician will have advised you on what kind of spectacles and contact lenses are suitable for you.
CONTACT LENSES
Easy to use and can be worn by over 95% of people thanks to advances in design and comfort. At Conlons we offer a full money back guarantee on all contact lenses (up to 90 days after your initial fitting by a contact lens optician).
SINGLE VISION
Spectacles and contact lenses give clear and comfortable vision if you have myopia, hypermetropia, or astigmatism.
BIFOCAL
Spectacles and contact lenses that enable you to see close to and far away. Ideal for people with presbyopia.
VARIFOCAL
Spectacle lenses which give the ultimate all-round vision, including middle distance. Unlike bifocals, they don’t have a dividing ‘line’ across the middle. Special lens coatings are a good idea for your spectacles as they help them to last longer and enhance vision.
ANTI-REFLECTION
This coating for spectacles reduces the discomfort (anti-glare) and distraction caused by glare and reflections.
It gives clearer vision, which is particularly good for night-driving and VDU work. Reduced reflection means that the spectacle lenses are also less obvious to others.
ANTI-SCRATCH
These coatings help protect the lens against small scratches caused by everyday cleaning and use. If you wear your spectacles a lot or have an active lifestyle, this kind of coating will help to prolong their life.
