At Conlons, whether you pay for your eye test privately or have the cost covered by the NHS, you can be sure of a thorough eye examination with one of our team of highly qualified registered optometrists. Your eye examination will include: • History and symptoms – a question and answer session about your lifestyle and medical history including any vision problems you may be having • Vision assessment – we will measure your existing vision either without glasses or with your existing prescription as appropriate so that we can tell if any improvement is possible • Refraction – where we accurately measure your individual prescription for glasses (if required!) using a variety of different methods • Health check – we take a look at the arteries, veins and nerves at the back of your eye. Having your eyes examined can detect early signs of medical problems such as glaucoma, cataract and even general health condition such as diabetes and high blood pressure. • Other tests as required – if you are over 40, or there is a family history of glaucoma then you will routinely receive an eye pressure check (the puff of air test) and visual field test to screen for any loss of peripheral vision that can go unnoticed until it is too late. We also perform other tests such as colour vision only when required. • Retinal Photography – this is an optional extra available at a small extra charge as part of an enhanced eye exam. • Issue of prescription and advice – you will be issued with a copy of your spectacle prescription (or a statement saying you don’t need glasses) and advised whether you are suitable for contact lenses and what options you might have in spectacle lenses. For further more comprehensive advice you will need to see a contact lens optician or one of the dispensing team. Over two-thirds of people are now entitled to an NHS eye test, and many of these people are also entitled to an NHS voucher towards the cost of glasses. |
