| The fundus is another name for the back of the eye including the retina and optic nerve head (the optic nerve carries information from the retina to the brain). Fundus photography is the same as retinal photography that is carried out as part of an enhanced eye exam. Optometrists recommend an enhanced eye exam as it gives them a permanent record for comparison at future eye exams so that even tiny changes can be detected much more easily. |
