All qualified opticians must be registered with the General Optical Council which formulates the laws and rules governing individual opticians and their businesses. They exist to protect the public and are the final recourse should you be unhappy with the actions of an optician. You can report an optician to the General Optical Council (GOC) if you feel you have grounds – an optician would take the threat of this very seriously as the GOC have the power to fine or even strike an optician from the register temporarily or permanently. However if your complaint is to do with your eye examination, spectacles or contact lenses you should firstly raise your concerns with the Optician you are unhappy with. If you are still not happy with the outcome then the GOC runs an independent arbitration service OCCS – the Optical Consumer Complaints Service who can almost always resolve any service issues you may have - www.opticalcomplaints.co.uk. If your complaint concerns potentially criminal behaviour then you should report it directly to the GOC in writing for them to investigate further. |
