Intermediate addition

From early childhood as we get older we gradually lose the ability to focus close up. This usually becomes a problem at around the age of 40 when a reading addition is often required in addition to any distance prescription you may have - the requirement of an add is known as presbyopia from Greek term literally meaning "old sight".

At around the age of 55 it becomes difficult to focus on intermediate objects and at this stage we would normally recommend an intermediate addition for tasks such as using a computer or playing the piano. This can be made up as a separate prescription or more likely incorporated into varifocals or trifocal lenses.
