| This term rather unflatteringly comes from the Greek meaning “old sight”. It affects people in their forties when most people, even if they already wear glasses for distance / general use, begin to have difficulty focussing on near objects. Particularly noticeable in dim light, it is characterised by the patient having to hold print further away to read it. Happily it is easily resolved with varifocal or bifocal glasses, or, increasingly with multifocal contact lenses. |
